Zombies in the media and how they will affect my films

This will be an overview of movie zombies and how they will affect the way my film portrays and uses the zombie theme. I wish to create a unique zombie as the original zombie has been recycled countless times in countless movies.

In order to do this i will be writing an overview of the different kinds of zombies used in film and video games.

Resident Evil zombie:

THE zombies featured in Resident Evil are the old conventional zombies, slow, shambling, easy to avoid, fun to kill. While they don’t offer any real challenge to the film or game’s protagonist they do offer more scare value than the running zombie. I feel this is because when a zombie runs at you full pelt you are not able to see its features properly before you blow its head off, therefore you are not able to take in how grotesque it looks. Also a zombie that can run seems more human, as humans are able to run, but a zombie that is limited to only a slow tormented shuffle seems more like a monster than a crazy human. Resident Evil’s zombies are also reanimated corpses brought to life by a virus, this means their skin is all decomposing and nasty, they also have the characteristic white eyes which is caused by lack of something or other in the eyes after you die. this generally makes them really creepy.

Land of the dead zombie:

These zombies are rather similar to the ones in Resident Evil, However due to the fact that they have been around for years they have begun to re gain some intelligence. They appear to have organized themselves into a tribe like unity with the black, boiler suit zombie as their leader. This zombie has also apparently remembered how to use a rifle and open doors. They have also began to shed their animatistic instinct as they are capable of dealing with problems better than conventional zombies. For example when a conventional zombie is faced with an obstacle it will try to go around it, as it lacks the intelligence to comprehend how to defeat it. However when the zombie tribe is faced with a lake they have the intelligence to realize they can walk through it to the main city where all the humans are to feast upon.

Day of the dead zombies:

These zombies are similar to the ones just mentioned because they are both slightly intelligent. The zombies from day of the dead keep segments of their personality or memory from when they were humans. For example the female soldier’s mother remembering their voices and the communications technician still being a vegetarian and thus not nomming the other characters. If I remember correctly they are also runners. So this movie combines 2 innovative zombie themes into one.

28 days later zombie:

It is to my knowledge that these little bastards were the first ever runners. This movie uses the runner genre to its highest effect. In away these zombies are still scary in that movie, however they are more jump scares than mess you up mentally scares. I will not be concentrating on this particular breed of the undead as I prefer slow, stupid zombies (with the exception of left 4 dead) but the fact that they were unique and the first of their kind will influence my movie zambies.

In conclusion the zombies in the media are progressively becoming more intelligent  however i want my zombies to be completely retarded but exceptional in combat, this is because the message of my movie will be that the best soldier is one who is completely inhuman as i am against the military, therefore this will spread the message that soldiers are brain dead shells of people who can only follow orders.

They will however not be walking corpses therefore they don’t have to be covered in wounds or anything, nano bots can close up wounds anyway, the only way to kill them will be to shoot them in the head. This will also save money on special effects and stuff. Also nano bots haven’t been featured in a modern film in a long time so my film will be able to resurrect them into the mainframe because frankly they’re bloody terrifying
